Homosexuality case in Education

Jennifer Keeton is a graduate student at Augusta State University in Georgia and she is currently pursuing a master's degree in school counseling. At various points throughout her participation in the program, Ms. Keeton expressed her firmly held religious-based beliefs that homosexuality is lifestyle choice that is morally and ethically wrong. While Ms. Keeton's religious views and her right to express her opinion are protected by the Constitution, there are other aspects to consider in this case.

Ms. Keeton is studying to become a school counselor, which falls under the auspices and guidelines of the American Counseling Association. The ACA has its own Code of Ethics to which all counselors must adhere, which includes prohibiting counselors from discriminating against anyone in a professional setting based on factors such as gender identity and sexual orientation, among others. So, in this particular instance, we have a situation where Augusta State University appears to be taking it upon themselves to preemptively expel Ms. Keeton from its program before she would be eligible to graduate and attempt to begin a career as school counselor.

At this point, a lawsuit has been filed on behalf of Ms. Keeton by her attorney, David French, claiming that the school is unfairly discriminating against Keeton based on her religious beliefs. As this thing unfolds, there will probably be several judges who will be forced to grapple with the legal ramifications of these arguments.

But what is more glaringly apparent to me is the difficulty that an issue like homosexuality presents in certain academic settings. Even in today's society, where homosexuality is ever-present in pop culture and much of the stigma has been removed, there are still many people and many areas of the country who believe that homosexuality is a damnable offense against God. And regardless of the logical or ethical arguments one might choose to present, they are very likely to fall on deaf ears. When it comes to issues like homosexuality, people are going to believe what they are going to believe. Ask Carrie Prejean.

In an instance like this, however, we have an aspiring school counselor who will eventually be charged with helping children and young adults as they plan their academic lives. Because most academic advice is provided in high school and college, it's likely that issues of sexuality will be present in many forms and will have an impact on the lives of most students in one way or another. It's easy to imagine the problems that could potentially result when a young homosexual person approaches his or her school counselor for advice, only to find that she does not recognize homosexuality as a human condition - but rather as an active choice that has been made, and one with which she happens to vehemently disagree. That could make for a rather brief counseling session.

Of course, there likely are religious institutions out there, where Ms. Keeton's views would be welcomed and encouraged among school counselors. So in that regard, it may be a bit harsh on the part of the University to threaten expulsion for her stated beliefs. Instead, it would likely be most ethical of the University to work closely with Ms. Keeton to attempt to find a counseling path for her that would ensure that she is providing the most valuable services possible upon her graduation. Certainly, that may not be at public universities or high schools, but there are most certainly destinations where she could be a great asset to the educational experience to the right group of young people. At least until such time as the rights of homosexuals are recognized and protected by the United States of America.

About Menstruation | All Informations and Tips

Puberty and Periods

Menstruation (a period) may be a major stage of pubescence in girls; it's one among the various physical signs that a lady is popping into a girl.

And sort of a ton of the opposite changes related to pubescence, discharge will be confusing. Some women cannot wait to start out their periods, whereas others could feel afraid or anxious. many women (and guys!) do not have an entire understanding of a woman's system or what truly happens throughout the oscillation, creating the method appear even a lot of mysterious.

When women begin to travel through pubescence (usually beginning between the ages of eight and 13), their bodies and minds amendment in many ways. The hormones in their bodies stimulate new physical development, like growth and breast development. concerning two to 2½ years once a girl's breasts begin to develop, she typically gets her 1st catamenial amount.

About six months roughly before obtaining her playing period, a lady would possibly notice associate enlarged quantity of clear emission. This discharge is common. there is no want for a lady to fret concerning discharge unless it's a robust odor or causes itch.

The start of periods is thought as start. start does not happen till all the components of a girl's system have matured and area unit operating along.

The Female system

Baby women area unit born with ovaries, fallopian tubes, and a female internal reproductive organ. the 2 ovaries area unit oval-shaped and sit on either facet of the female internal reproductive organ (womb) within the lowest a part of the abdomen known as the pelvis. They contain thousands of eggs, or ova. the 2 fallopian tubes area unit long and skinny. every female internal reproductive organ stretches from associate ovary to the female internal reproductive organ, a pear-shaped organ that sits within the middle of the pelvis. The muscles during a female's female internal reproductive organ area unit powerful and area unit ready to expand to permit the female internal reproductive organ to accommodate a growing craniate so facilitate push the baby out throughout labor.

As a lady matures and enters pubescence, the pituitary body releases hormones that stimulate the ovaries to supply alternative hormones known as steroid and Lipo-Lutin. These hormones have several effects on a girl's body, as well as physical maturation, growth, and emotions.

About once a month, a small egg leaves one among the ovaries — a method known as biological process — and travels down one among the fallopian tubes toward the female internal reproductive organ. within the days before biological process, the endocrine steroid stimulates the female internal reproductive organ to make up its lining with additional blood and tissue, creating the walls of the female internal reproductive organ thick and cushiony. This happens to organize the female internal reproductive organ for pregnancy: If the egg is fertile by a spermatozoon, it travels to the female internal reproductive organ and attaches to the cushioned wall of the female internal reproductive organ, wherever it slowly develops into a baby.

If the egg is not fertile, tho' — that is that the case throughout most of a woman's monthly cycles — it does not attach to the wall of the female internal reproductive organ. once this happens, the female internal reproductive organ sheds the additional tissue lining. The blood, tissue, and unfertilised egg leave the female internal reproductive organ, surfing the duct on the answer of the body. this can be a catamenial amount.

This cycle happens virtually monthly for many a lot of decades (except, of course, once a feminine is pregnant) till a girl reaches change of life and not releases eggs from her ovaries.

How typically will a lady Get Her Period?

Just as some women begin pubescence earlier or later than others, a similar applies to periods. Some women could begin sick as early as age ten, however others might not get their playing period till they're fifteen years previous.

The amount of your time between a girl's amounts is termed her oscillation (the cycle is counted from the beginning of 1 period to the beginning of the next). Some women can notice that their oscillation lasts twenty eight days, whereas others might need a 24-day cycle, a 30-day cycle, or perhaps longer. Following start, catamenial cycles last 21-45 days. once some of years, cycles shorten to associate adult length of 21-34 days.

Irregular periods area unit common in women WHO area unit simply starting to hemorrhage. it should take the body a short while to planned out all the changes happening, therefore a lady could have a 28-day cycle for two months, then miss a month, as an example. Usually, once a year or 2, the oscillation can become a lot of regular. Some ladies still have irregular periods into adulthood, though.

As a lady gets older and her amounts calm down — or she gets a lot of accustomed her own distinctive cycle — {she can|she is going to|she's going to} in all probability notice that she will be able to predict once her period will come back. within the meanwhile, it is a sensible plan to stay track of your oscillation with a calendar.

How Long and the way Much?

The amount of your time that a lady has her amount can also vary. Some women have periods that last simply two or three days. alternative women could have periods that last seven days. The blood — that means what quantity blood comes out of the duct — will vary wide from lady to lady, too.

Some women could also be involved that they are losing an excessive amount of blood. It will be a shock to ascertain all that blood, however it's unlikely that a lady can lose an excessive amount of, unless she contains a medical condition like MD unwellness. tho' it should appear as if plenty, the typical quantity of blood is merely concerning two tablespoons (30 milliliters) for a whole amount. Most teens can amendment pads three to six times each day, with a lot of frequent changes once their amount is heaviest, typically at the beginning of the amount.

Especially once catamenial periods area unit new, you will be distressed concerning your blood flow or whether or not your amount is traditional in alternative ways in which. seek advice from a doctor or nurse if:
your amount lasts longer than per week
you have to alter your pad fairly often (soaking quite one pad each 1-2 hours)
you go longer than three months between periods
you have hurt in between periods
you have associate uncommon quantity of pain before or throughout your amount
your periods were regular then became irregular
Cramps

Some women could notice physical or emotional changes round the time of their periods. catamenial cramps area unit pretty common — in truth, quite half all ladies WHO hemorrhage say they need cramps throughout the primary few days of their periods. Doctors suppose that cramps area unit caused by autocoid, a chemical that causes the muscles of the female internal reproductive organ to contract.

Depending on the lady, catamenial cramps will be uninteresting and aching or sharp and intense, and that they will typically be felt within the back additionally because the abdomen. These cramps typically abate uncomfortable and typically even disappear fully as a lady gets older.

Many girls and girls notice that over-the-counter pain medications (like Tylenol or ibuprofen) will relieve cramps, as will taking a heat bathtub or applying a heat heater to the lower abdomen. physical exertion frequently throughout the monthly cycle could facilitate reduce cramps, too. If this stuff do not facilitate, raise your doctor for recommendation.

PMS and Pimples

Some women and girls notice that they feel unhappy or simply irritated throughout the few days or week before their periods. Others could get angry a lot of quickly than traditional or cry quite usual. Some women crave bound foods. These kinds of emotional changes could also be the results of syndrome (PMS).

PMS is said to changes within the body's hormones. As endocrine levels rise and fall throughout a woman's oscillation, they will have an effect on the method she feels, each showing emotion and physically. Some girls, additionally to feeling a lot of intense emotions than they typically do, notice physical changes beside their periods — some feel tumid or puffy thanks to water retention, others notice swollen and sore breasts, and a few get headaches.

PMS typically goes away shortly once a amount begins, however it will return month once month. uptake right, obtaining enough sleep, and physical exertion could facilitate relieve a number of the symptoms of PMS. seek advice from your doctor if you're involved concerning your expelling symptoms.

It's also not uncommon for ladies to possess associate disease of the skin burst throughout bound times of their cycle; once more, this can be as a result of hormones. luckily, the pimples related to periods tend to abate of a tangle as women grow up.
Pads, Tampons, and Liners

Once you start sick, you'll have to use one thing to soak up the blood. most women use a pad or a tampon. however some use catamenial cups, that a lady inserts into her duct to catch and hold the blood (instead of riveting it, sort of a tampon).

There area unit numerous product out there that it should take some experimenting before you discover the one that works best for you. Some women use solely pads (particularly after they 1st begin menstruating), some use solely tampons, and a few switch around — tampons throughout the day and pads at the hours of darkness, as an example.

Girls WHO worry concerning outflow from a tampon typically use a pantiliner, too, and a few women use liners alone on flash days of their periods.

Periods should not get within the method of physical exertion, having fun, and enjoying life. women WHO area unit terribly active, notably people who fancy swimming, typically notice that tampons area unit the simplest choice throughout sports.

If you have got questions about pads, tampons, or dealing with periods, raise a parent, health teacher, college nurse, or older sister.
